NRL Indigenous All Stars Hit by Injury Setback Ahead of Clash

In a setback ahead of their highly anticipated clash, the NRL Indigenous All Stars will miss veteran half Cody Walker due to injury. Walker sustained a calf injury during training last week, joining fellow withdrawals Isaiah Tass and Jacob Alick, dealing a blow to the team’s lineup. Walker’s absence presents an opportunity for Kyle Laybutt, the QRL half and PNG Kumuls Pacific Championship captain, to make his first appearance for the Indigenous All Stars. Laybutt will join incoming reinforcements Brian Kelly and Zac Fulton as they prepare for the upcoming match.

Expressing disappointment over Walker’s injury, Indigenous men’s side coach Ronald Griffiths highlighted the significance of Walker’s absence, noting his passion and leadership on the field. Walker’s availability for Souths’ NRL opener against Manly Warringah also hangs in the balance due to the injury.

Despite the setback, the confirmation of Walker’s replacement as captain is still pending. The 34-year-old has previously showcased his skills on the field, delivering a strong performance for NSW in last year’s State of Origin series.

Trindall, Cronulla’s 2023 first-choice five-eighth, is poised to play a crucial role in the upcoming match.

Despite these setbacks, anticipation remains high for the NRL All Stars fixtures, which will kick off with a mixed touch football game followed by the women’s and men’s games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday. As teams regroup and adapt to these challenges, fans can expect an exciting and fiercely contested showdown on the field.
