Gardner’s victory, with 147 votes to Perry’s 134, marks her second consecutive win after securing the same honor in 2022. This places her in the elite company of only six previous multi-time winners of the Belinda Clark Medal.

Her outstanding performances with both red and white balls contributed significantly to Australia’s triumph in the Ashes series in England and the T20 World Cup, where Gardner celebrated her sixth title win. The 26-year-old played a pivotal role in Australia’s success, leading the international ODI wicket tally in 2023 with 24 scalps at an impressive average of 16.37. Additionally, her batting prowess was evident with an average of around 30 across both white-ball formats.

One of the standout moments of Gardner’s exceptional year was her dominant display in Australia’s one-off Ashes Test victory in England, where she claimed a remarkable 12 wickets, including an impressive 8/66 in the second innings.

Last week, Gardner’s exceptional form earned her a spot in the ICC’s Women’s T20 Team of the Year, further solidifying her status as one of the top performers in the world.

In her acceptance speech, Gardner graciously shared the achievement with her cricket family, teammates, and support staff, acknowledging the pivotal role they played in her success. She also expressed gratitude to her family and partner Mon, emphasizing their unwavering support and presence at every game.

As a proud Muruwari woman, Gardner received additional recognition with the Community Impact Award, underscoring her positive influence beyond the cricket field.

Following the 2024 Australian Cricket Awards, Gardner now shifts her focus back to the game as Australia engages in a trilateral series against South Africa. After a historic first-ever win for the Proteas in the second T20 international, Gardner’s unbeaten 26-run cameo innings played a crucial role in Australia taking a 2-1 lead in the series. With three ODIs and the debut Test match on the horizon, Gardner remains a pivotal figure as Australia aims to continue its cricketing success. The first ODI against South Africa is scheduled to take place in Adelaide on Saturday.
