This is a heartwarming story of the return of historical Indigenous artwork to the family of the artist, Daniel Khan. Lost indigenous artworks returned to family of origin after two-year search

After a two-and-a-half-year search, Mr. Bennell located the artist’s family in Harvey. It was revealed that Daniel Khan was the artist behind the landscape art. Mr. Bennell, who is actively involved in teaching about Aboriginal art, history, and cultural knowledge in the South West region, played a crucial role in reuniting the artwork with the artist’s family.

Paula Khan, Mr. Khan’s daughter, expressed her happiness and surprise when her cousin, Mr. Bennell, informed her about the discovery and return of her father’s art. She shared that growing up, she was surrounded by her father’s paintings and felt a deep connection to his artistic legacy.

Ms. Khan mentioned her desire to organize a display of her father’s artwork, possibly in collaboration with Troy Bennell, and to keep the pieces within the family. The story highlights the significance of preserving and reconnecting with Indigenous art and culture, emphasizing the role of community members like Mr. Bennell in such endeavors.
