Chocolate On Purpose, Australia’s first Indigenous chocolate business, has secured a prestigious Silver and Editor’s Choice award in the “Best Chocolate/Cacao” category at the 2023 Clean & Conscious Awards. The company, founded and led by proud Wiradyuri woman Fiona Harrison, offers a unique social enterprise that combines a passion for chocolate with a commitment to social good.
Fiona Harrison highlighted the company’s disruptive approach in the artisan specialty chocolate market. They prioritize sustainability by sourcing ethically grown chocolate, contributing to eradicating forced child labor and raising cacao farmers’ living standards. Their palm-oil-free chocolate aligns with their mission to combat climate change and support Indigenous communities and endangered species.
Chocolate On Purpose has achieved significant milestones in the past year, including providing their chocolates as gifts for speakers at Tourism Australia’s 2023 Destination Australia Campaign launch. Looking ahead, they aim to create more job opportunities for disadvantaged women, increase Indigenous women’s workforce participation, and empower them through business.
Excitingly, the company is set to gain international recognition as a Danish company, in collaboration with Princess Mary of Denmark’s trade delegation, has commissioned Chocolate On Purpose to create chocolate bars featuring Australian bush food. The combination of Belgian chocolate and native ingredients helps share the Indigenous Australian story on a global scale.
